BMD Test (Bone Density Scan)

A Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Test, also called a DEXA scan, is a quick and painless way to check how strong your bones are. It helps doctors look for weak bones, low bone density, and osteoporosis.

A simple scan gives your doctor useful bone health information.

What is a Bone Density Scan?

This test measures minerals in your bones to show how strong they are. It uses a very small amount of X-ray and does not need injections, medicines, or anaesthesia.

Bone Density Scan Benefits

Doctors may recommend this test after a fracture, menopause, long-term steroid use, or if there is a family history of weak bones. It helps to:

  • Check for osteoporosis or low bone density
  • Understand fracture risk
  • Provide a baseline before treatment
  • Compare with older bone-density reports
